Systems Thinking in Action: Towards Reculturing Special Education

The Government of Ontario has made improvement in publicly funded education the centrepiece of its mandate. For the past three years, the Council of Ontario Directors of Education (CODE) has worked with school boards across the province to support the recommendations in Education for All: The Report of the Expert Panel on Literacy and Numeracy Instruction for Students With Special Education Needs.

The CODE Special Education Project has worked closely with Ontario school boards in making effective use of student achievement data to support instruction for students with special education needs. The project has supported boards in improving student learning, teaching practice, and instructional leadership. The CODE initiative has also facilitated the development of province-wide professional networks among superintendents and district leaders with responsibility for special education.

As part our commitment to mobilizing the knowledge gained from three years of work, the CODE Special Education Project will sponsor a series of webinars designed to share and create knowledge of promising practices developed by school boards. Special education leaders from across the province provided feedback about the content of these webinars in the spring of 2008. The first webinar will focus on systems thinking as it relates to reculturing special education programs and services. The webinar will build upon promising practices developed at the school, district, and provincial levels.

The CODE Special Education Leadership Team looks forward to joining colleagues from across the province for its first webinar, Systems Thinking in Action: Towards Reculturing Special Education.

Throughout this webinar, the participants will:

  • Familiarize themselves with the complexity and emergence of systems concepts
