Curriculum Correlation
The Bug Out! Get the Facts on Germs resource package supports educators in implementing Health and Science curriculum at the elementary school level.

Content
The pictographs, text boxes, comic strips, and captioned pictures support students in accessing the content. The resource package uses specific terminology that includes age-appropriate explanations which are presented in context. The activities provide students with opportunities to think critically and build on prior learning. The Family Booklet provides opportunities for connections with the home and the community. The information in the resource package is Canadian, current, and reliable.

Methodology
The resource package incorporates a variety of instructional strategies that support various learning styles and intelligences. The activities include opportunities for both teacher-led and student-centred learning.

The numerous real-life applications and performance tasks require students to use thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Students are provided with opportunities to develop life skills such as working with others in group activities.

Assessment
The resource package provides several opportunities for both formative and summative assessment. The questions, puzzles, quizzes, and hands-on activities provide immediate feedback for students and give them opportunities to self-assess. The culminating activities after each topic provide students with opportunities to demonstrate learning at different levels. The Facilitator Booklets provides possible answers to activities.

Format
Together, the Facilitator Booklets, Activity Booklets, and Family Booklet form a compatible and user-friendly resource package. The format is logical and easy to follow. Activities increase in difficulty as more knowledge is gained through subsequent activities. The Facilitator Booklets provide teaching strategies, suggested resources, and activities for assessing student knowledge and skills.

Bias
The Bug Out! Get the Facts on Germs resource package presents a balanced perspective.

Review Recommendation
The Bug Out! Get the Facts on Germs resource package is recommended to support curriculum delivery in the area of Heath and Science at the elementary school level.

Additional Notes:
Teachers will need to address with sensitivity the strong bias towards child immunization in this resource package when the student population represents cultures/ethnic/religious groups which do not vaccinate their children. Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum links are provided in each Facilitator Booklet. Some activities in the Activity Booklet for Kindergarten to Grade 3 contain advanced vocabulary and are lengthy for younger students, English Language Learners, and students with special needs.
