Content
The resource consists of a teacher's guide that includes lessons, student handouts, visuals and a CD of music by the highlighted composer as performed by Pinchas Zukerman. Although predominantly music-based, the various components of information provided within the resource promote cross-curricular subject integration and can be used to enrich the study of Language, Science, and Social Studies. The resource suggests appropriate activities, additional resources, and websites related to appropriate topics. The resource includes examples of graphic organizers for student use. The resource uses pictures and photographs to provide visual reinforcement of concepts. Historical and contemporary Canadian musicians and compositions are featured, including First Nations artists and music.
Methodology
The resource provides a variety of learning strategies that can be applied to multiple classroom environments, e.g., individual and small-group activities. The material accommodates a wide range of interests, needs, and learning styles by incorporating many cross-curricular activities.
Assessment
The material does not offer rubrics or grids to support the assessment of student learning; however, many activities are meant to reinforce concepts that are measurable and can be used as the basis for designing student assessments.
Format
Activities are appropriately designed for teacher and student use.
