"Quality education includes the education of the heart as well as the head; it includes a focus on the whole personthe cognitive, affective and behavioural domains of learning. It means preparing students to be concerned citizens who have empathy and respect for people within their increasingly diverse communities. It means providing opportunities for students to understand deeply the importance of civic engagement and what it means to be a global citizen in an increasingly interdependent global community. An approach to teaching that is infused with character development is education at its best.
"This initiative will be successful if all partners share the responsibility for the character development of students. We call upon all of our partners to join with us in nurturing the best of the human and universal qualities that our graduates need to be successful in school and in life."
Avis Glaze, 2006
